What do you mean by in C++? I am using C++ right now but it does not work for me.
Anyway, I have cached the indices outside the petsc library and speeded up my convection calculation by a factor of 2. 
Somehow I was not able to get the multiple meshes working correctly so I went back to the old fibration way.
