If you can wait a few more days, we'll have a new parallel-netcdf
release out that fixes this problem.  our port of nf_test has flagged
some issues in our fortran bindings and we are making steady progress
knocking them out.  I think we have just a couple of issues left.

they say 90% of the bugs take 90% of your time and the remaining 10%
take another 90% :> Even so, we should be able to get a release out
"soon". 

I'm afraid i don't know any other workarounds to get 0.8.9 building on
asci Q
