Hi,
 "Recompiled and, magically it worked..." - "Recompiled" must be the key here.
 I would recommend disabling firewall altogether or follow instructions in Section 9.5 of the "Windows developer's guide" (http://www.mcs.anl.gov/research/projects/mpich2/documentation/index.php?s=docs).

I uninstalled MPICH2, cleaned registry and re-installed. Run cpi.exe test and worked fine, same with mpiexec -n 2 hostname. However, for my Helloworld_MPI example, it was still giving me the error 

Error posting writev, An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine.(10053) 
unable to post a write for the next command, 
sock error: Error = 10053 
unable to post a write of the close command to tear down the job tree as part of the abort process. 
unable to post an abort command. 

So, I went to ControlPanel->Programs and "repaired" MPICH2. Then, and only then, a window pops up and asked that my program needed to go through the Firewall (allowed everything). Recompiled and, magically, it now works. 

I think I have an issue with Windows Firewall, but cannot solve it because when I do "ControlPanel->WindowsFirewall->Allow programs to communicate through firewall" , there is a message saying "The page cannot be loaded" (see attached). I know this is not the forum for this question, but have you/anybody ever seen this?? I could not find anything on the web regarding this issue.

The wmpiconfig seems to have a bug that prevents it from correctly querying the status of SMPD (process manager) on different hosts. Ignore the message for now. 
Can you run an MPI program using mpiexec from the command line (on 1 host, on multiple hosts)?

Hi, 

I have admin. rights. I have tried installing as "just me" and "everyone" with identical ill fate. When I run wmpiconfig I see "ace.eggnog: MPICH2 not installed or unable to query the host", where ace.eggnog is the name of my computer. The wierd thing is that it was running just fine a couple of days ago.

Which password do I need to enter here as my credentials?? The one I created when I installed MPICH2 or my own Windows password??
