BTW, if you'd like to try with a full fresh build in user space of
MPICH2 (including MPE), to do as A.Chan suggested, just get the
tarball and add something like "--prefix=/home/myuser/foo" option to
your ./configure line. Then make && make install will yield a
standalone copy that's easy to try out and/or remove without involving
root.
