[MPICH] Multithreading on Windows

We are using MPI_THREAD_MULTIPLE on Windows and seem to be having some
success but also some troubles which we are thinking might be related to
the threading on Windows.

I know MPI_THREAD_MULTIPLE is only a request and, in fact,
MPI_Init_thread always returns MPI_THREAD_SINGLE. But we seem to be
able to operate multi-threaded in some instances.

Does this make sense? Why would it work sometimes and not others?
Should we dump the Windows platform altogether?

The most likely way for the world to be destroyed, most experts agree,

is by accident. That's where we come in; we're computer professionals.

We cause accidents. - Nathaniel Borenstein
