Perhaps, but CGM isn't implemented that way.  A string file type must be
specified.  If CGM is built with ACIS and the ACIS STEP importer, reading in
step file will fail if the file type is not "STEP" and reading a SAT file
will fail if the file type is not "ACIS" (or whatever it is supposed to be.)
