Together with NVIDIA and the OpenACC organization, the Barcelona
Supercomputing Center will host the 8th Marenostrum Hackathon, a hybrid
Open Hackathon starting 15 September 2026 and concluding 30 September 2026.
These hackathons are multi-day, hands-on coding events that help
computational scientists and researchers port, accelerate, and optimize
their own real-world applications on data center architectures.
Participants are paired with dedicated, expert mentors and work together
to tackle computational bottlenecks, optimize HPC and AI workloads, and
realise performance gains and speedups using a variety of programming
models, libraries, and tools.
This hackathon is open to everyone looking to take their projects to the
next level; however, priority acceptance will be given to Barcelona
Supercomputing Center affiliated scientists and their collaborators.
MNHack is an opportunity for HPC application developers and users to
deploy, test, port, and optimize their codes on cutting-edge platforms
provided by the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC). Unlike
traditional competitive hackathons, MNHack is a non-competitive,
hands-on event designed to help users improve their applications with
the support of world-class mentors.
Participants will gain access to Europe’s pre-exascale supercomputer,
MareNostrum 5, including both general-purpose and accelerated computing
resources. This event is ideal for those looking to:
-Deploy and scale up HPC applications
-Optimize performance on cutting-edge CPU/GPU hardware
-Analyze behavior using BSC tools such as Extrae, Paraver, and Dimemas
-Leverage programming models like MPI, OpenMP, CUDA, OpenACC, and HIP
Participants receive training and help tailored to their needs,
including programming models, tools, hardware platforms, and DevOps.
Experts from BSC and NVIDIA will be available to provide guidance
throughout the hackathon. You can participate individually or in a team
of up to 4 people—just bring an HPC application and be ready to have a
whale of a time.
Organizing Committee
-Steering Committee: Antonio J. Peña (chair) and David Vicente.
-Executive Committee: Sergio Iserte (chair), Hannah Elizabeth Ross
(online chair), Marta Garcia (in-person chair).
