Call for Nominations for SC29 General Chair
-------------------------------------------
The SC Steering Committee invites nominations for the position of SC29
General Chair. Self-nominations will be considered.
A complete nomination includes:
* The nominee's name, employer, and email address;
* A recent curriculum vitae (CV) or resume that highlights the nominee's
experience with SC, with other relevant conferences, and their
relevant professional experiences;
* A statement that demonstrates how the nominee meets the "Desired
Experience and Qualities" (listed below); and
* A response *from the nominee* to the "Questions for the General Chair
Nominee" listed below.
Nominations close Friday, September 11, 2026.
Submit your nomination here: https://urldefense.us/v3/__https://submissions.supercomputing.org/?page=Submit&id=SC29GeneralChairNomination&site=sc26__;!!G_uCfscf7eWS!eqVQqma0mvJILcUYfX3JfzfTBwFY8ZvFo10oxp0XQ31H0-14lytxGTRejkQNrOv7Z33684RSeuyA_BgN9bFVuHY$
-------------------------------------------
Desired Experience and Qualities:
-------------------------------------------
* Experience managing large, complex projects with multi-million USD
budgets in which the people executing the project do not all report
directly to the manager
* A breadth and depth of experience with SC conference organization,
especially leadership roles, and a record of active participation in
the SC community
* The ability to set strategic direction and delegate its execution
* A willingness and ability to commit significant time and effort to the
planning and management of the conference in the three years leading
up to the event.
- Previous chairs and the SC steering committee estimate the time
commitment to be approximately:
* 10% of a full-time equivalent (FTE) two years before your
conference year
* 25% FTE the year before your conference
* 70% FTE in the year of your conference.
* Commitment to serving on the SC steering committee for a five-year
term starting two years before your conference year and ending two
years after your conference year.
- This commitment includes participation in monthly steering
committee meetings. The January, June, and November meetings are
held in person. The other meetings are 90-minute teleconferences.
It is acceptable to attend the January and June meetings virtually
if circumstances require. Because we expect steering committee
members to attend the November SC conference in person, we expect
them to participate in the November steering committee meeting in
person.
- It also includes a commitment to serve on, and potentially chair,
topical subcommitees of the steering committee. This involves
meetings in addition to the monthly steering committee meeting
and/or asynchronous online work.
- There is a strong tradition of the outgoing conference general
chair being the next year's steering committee chair.

Questions for the General Chair Nominee:
(*Must* be developed by the nominee. For reference when developing
responses: the SC General Chair does *not* select the conference's
host city.)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
* What is your vision for SC29?
* What conference elements would you add, remove, grow or reduce? How
should all conference elements be promoted?
* A key to success as SC General Chair is assembling a strong Executive
Committee and effectively delegating to a large, volunteer-driven
organizing committee. This requires clear communication of
expectations, consistent follow-up, and the fostering of a
collaborative, inclusive environment. Given that volunteers are
motivated differently than salaried staff, how will you ensure the
conference's goals are achieved while sustaining a highly engaged,
motivated, and effective volunteer community?
* What experience and exposure have you had to the operational and
organizational details of the SC conference that prepare you to lead
the organizing committee effectively? How do you plan to deepen or
supplement this knowledge in the years leading up to the conference?
* How will your home institution support your position as chair and how
will you ensure the conference is a top priority, especially in 2029?
What funding or other support do you envision the conference will need
to provide for you to be successful?
* Do you have any other perspectives or insights that you wish to share
with the selection committee?
