HUST 2026: The 13th International Workshop on HPC User Support Tools
Held in conjunction with
SC26: The International Conference for High Performance Computing,
Networking, Storage and Analysis
Supercomputing centers exist to drive scientific discovery by
supporting researchers in computational science fields. To make users
more productive in the complex HPC environment, HPC centers employ
user support teams. These teams serve many roles, from setting up
accounts, to consulting on math libraries and code optimization, to
managing HPC software stacks. Often, support teams struggle to
adequately support scientists. HPC environments are extremely complex,
and combined with the complexity of multi-user installations, exotic
hardware, and maintaining research software, supporting HPC users can
be extremely demanding.
With the twelfth HUST workshop, we will continue to provide a
necessary forum for user support team members, tool developers, policy
makers, end users, and system administrators. We will provide a forum
to discuss support issues and we will provide a publication venue for
current support developments. Best practices, user support tools, and
any ideas to streamline user support at supercomputing centers are in
scope.
Our workshop is scheduled on Sunday, November 15 (half-day AM session,
exact time TBA) in Chicago, IL, USA as part of the SC26
(https://urldefense.us/v3/__https://sc26.supercomputing.org/__;!!G_uCfscf7eWS!czW6dcEVY4t-80aEvfs_-zVn_-GmsNHExMAb4XjRiQe3L1fADy-eR08dFR2N4cH-EYsKWkrm3aSl9mDt7A$ ) conference. More information on the
HUST workshop series and community can be found on the

TOPICS
HUST workshop papers should discuss topics and tools of interest to
HPC user support teams. Papers should include insights in a
reproducible manner. Case studies and reusable tools are in-scope.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Defining and customizing the user environment
* Software tools for system testing and monitoring, including energy profiling
* Software build and installation tools
* Tools and frameworks for using system performance analysis tools
* Workflow and pipeline tools
* Collaborative development tools
* Novel HPC environments: cloud, support for containers
* Storage tools and strategies for efficient use
* Supporting Hadoop and Spark clusters for Big Data
* ML, AI, and other Data Analysis workflows
* Establishing baseline configuration efforts for HPC
* Software tools for system testing and monitoring
* Supporting complex HPC environments e.g., hardware heterogeneity
* Documentation: creating, maintaining, and auto-updating
* Approaches and tools for scaling user support
* Experience of sharing tools, services and best practices for user
support across multiple HPC centres
SUBMISSIONS
We invite authors to submit original, high-quality work with
sufficient background material to be clear to the HPC community. We
are accepting submissions in 2 formats: full papers (5-12 pages) and
short papers (2-4 pages). Only full papers will be included in the
published workshop proceedings.
We expect each paper will receive at least 3 reviews from a double
blind reviewer.
FORMAT
All submissions should be made electronically through the SC26
Submissions website (https://urldefense.us/v3/__https://submissions.supercomputing.org/__;!!G_uCfscf7eWS!czW6dcEVY4t-80aEvfs_-zVn_-GmsNHExMAb4XjRiQe3L1fADy-eR08dFR2N4cH-EYsKWkrm3aSvX13zQg$ ). Papers
should be submitted as PDF file using the IEEE proceedings template.
We kindly refer authors to the necessary templates:
https://urldefense.us/v3/__https://www.ieee.org/conferences/publishing/templates.html__;!!G_uCfscf7eWS!czW6dcEVY4t-80aEvfs_-zVn_-GmsNHExMAb4XjRiQe3L1fADy-eR08dFR2N4cH-EYsKWkrm3aTDr_5rLg$
Submissions must be double blind, i.e., authors should remove their
names, institutions or hints found in references to earlier work. When
discussing past work, they need to refer to themselves in the third
person, as if they were discussing another researcher’s work.
Furthermore, authors must identify any conflict of interest with the
PC chair or PC members.
We are accepting:
* Full papers, 5-12 pages including figures, tables, and references
(will be included in the Proceedings).
* Short papers, 2-4 pages including figures, tables, and references
(will NOT be included in the Proceedings).
REPRODUCIBILITY
For the HUST workshop, we adopt the model of the SC26 technical paper
program. Participation in the reproducibility initiative is optional,
but highly encouraged. To participate, authors provide a completed
Artifact Description Appendix (at most 2 pages) along with their
submission. Please use the SC26 AD appendix template for your HUST
submission. Note: A paper cannot be disqualified based on information
provided or not provided in this appendix, nor if the appendix is not
available. The availability and quality of an appendix can be used in
ranking a paper. In particular, if two papers are of similar quality,
the existence and quality of the appendices can be part of the
evaluation process. For more information, please refer to the SC26
reproducibility page and the FAQs on the hust-workshop.github.io
website.
