ABSTRACT:
Edge Computing is a critical layer in the Computing Continuum
infrastructure, rapidly emerging as a transformative distributed
technology able to process data closer to the collection point, at the
edge of the network. This approach enables highly distributed, real-time
applications across large geographic areas, opening new possibilities
for applications that require low latency, rapid decision-making, and
real-time responses.
Recently, the development of high-performance, low-power computing
devices has significantly advanced the capabilities of edge computing.
These devices thightly integrate advanced computing units with
controllers for sensors and actuators, enabling edge nodes to perform
complex computations locally, reducing the need for centralized cloud
processing. The main feature of these devices is their very low-power
consumption of just a few Watts, resulting in a reduced processing
capability that is not comparable to that of high-end systems. This
makes it essential to define strategies and methodologies to effectively
strike a trade-off between high-performance computing and low-energy
consumption.
This workshop will explore the challenges and strategies for optimizing
performance at the edge while maintaining energy efficiency, focusing on
how these emerging devices can support real-time, distributed
applications in diverse fields. By addressing the limitations and
opportunities of current edge computing technologies, we aim to create a
collaborative forum where researchers and practitioners can exchange
ideas, discuss recent advancements, and explore new methodologies for
maximizing the potential of edge computing. We invite all interested
scholars to submit their contributions, including research papers, case
studies, and practical applications.
TOPICS:
We focus on contributions covering various topics related to
methodologies, software tools and case studies addressing the challenges
for deploying highly responsive distributed applications at the edge of
the network with a special attention to the energy consumption. Topics
of interest include but are not limited to the following
- Trade-off models for low-power consumption and high-performance computing
- HPC systems and frameworks for edge environments
- Real-time data processing and analysis at the edge
- Edge-to-cloud hybrid computing models for Continuous Computing pipelines
- Performance benchmarking and evaluation of edge devices in real-time
applications
- Innovative and low-power HPC computing devices
- Model adaptations techniques for limited-resources devices
- Energy aware algorithms and applications on low power devices
- Integration of Cloud/Fog/Edge computing techniques and software tools
