=============================================================================
18th International Symposium on Symbolic and Numeric Algorithms for
Scientific Computing
SYNASC 2016 - Distributed computing track
http://synasc.ro/2016/tracks/distributed-computing-2/
During the past 17 years SYNASC (http://synasc.ro/2016/) has built a strong
nucleus of researchers which gather every year to discuss their ongoing
research. The multidisciplinary nature of the conference brings together
people from various computer science areas, including symbolic computing,
numerical analysis, multi-agent systems, nature inspired processing and
distributed/parallel computing. All these are hot topics in computer
science and provide the attendees with the chance of uncovering
interdisciplinary research ideas and concrete use cases for their work.
Among them, distributed computing, with an increasing interest in elastic
distributed application deployed on platforms such as clouds and HPC, is in
the unique position of being at the center of the scene. It allows
researchers from various fields to extend their experiments and test their
ideas on large scale infrastructures. In this frame the Distributed
Computing track is a great opportunity for young and senior scientists
working on topics related to clouds, grids, P2P, fog, Internet of things or
distributed systems in general to present their work, discover new
challenges, and find real use cases and applications for their research.
With the global focus leaning towards (inter-) cloud and utility computing
researchers start to feel the benefit of these systems too. However we feel
there is much to be done before existing applications from other fields can
be fully ported on these new platforms. SYNASC and the Distributed
Computing track are therefore a great opportunity for addressing the
interdisciplinary applicability of distributed scalable systems. Following
recent scientific trends the distributed track will focus this year on Big
Data topics related to distributed computing. We are particularly
interested in solutions to solving Big Data problems on clouds and in the
fog. Fog computing is an emerging topic dealing with computation on the
edge rather than on the cloud. Papers outlying the benefits of running on
fog vs. clouds are welcomed.
For the past 6 years the Distributed Computing track has been an important
part of the conference attracting numerous researchers with interesting
papers. The acceptance rate of the past venues allows for increased
competitiveness in submitting applied and fundamental research to the
venue. As such this conference is ideal to young researchers to publish
initial works and get valuable feedback from the community.
-------------------
Topics of interest:
-------------------
We invite both researchers and practitioners to submit their work and join
us in addressing these challenges.
Work-in-progress and mature research papers in the following non-exhaustive
areas are welcomed:
- Models for parallel and distributed systems including models on resources
and networks, semantic representation, negotiation, trace management,
simulators;
- Parallel and distributed algorithms for clouds, grids, HPC, GPUs, P2P
systems, fog, and autonomous systems. Work should focus on scheduling,
scaling, load balancing, networks, fault-tolerance, gossip algorithms,
energy saving;
- Architectures and platforms for parallel and distributed computing,
including self-managing and autonomous systems, negotiation protocols, big
data analysis architectures, HPC on clouds, GPU processing, PaaS for
(inter)cloud, Internet of Things, brokering platforms, mobile computing
solutions;
- Applications for parallel and distributed systems, including work on
cross disciplinary (scientific) applications for clouds/grids/fog, Big Data
platforms, web applications, workflow platforms, network measurement tools,
programming environments;
- Any other topic deemed relevant to the field.
---------------------------
Important conference dates:
---------------------------
10 April 2016 : Abstract submission
10 May 2016 : Paper submission
15 July 2016 : Notification of acceptance
15 August 2016 : Registration
01 September 2016 : Revised papers according to the reviews
25-27 September 2016 : Symposium
30 November 2016 : Final papers for post-proceedings
-----------------
Paper submission:
-----------------
Paper should be submitted using the electronic EasyChair system (
http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=synasc2016).
Submitted work will benefit from a blind review of at least 3 experts in
the area and will be judged based on their relevance to the track, novelty,
clarity of text and future impact.
Prospective authors must demonstrate their intention of submitting their
work by first submitting a 1/2 page abstract clearly indicating the main
purpose and contributions of their paper.
There are four categories of submissions:
- Regular papers describing fully completed research results (up to 8
pages in the two-columns paper style).
- System descriptions and experimental papers describing implementation
results of experimental data, with a link to the reported results (up to 4
pages in the two-columns paper style).
- Short papers, describing work in progress and/or preliminary results (up
to 4 pages in the two-columns paper style).
- Posters, describing ongoing work and research challenges of PhD students
(up to 2 pages in the two-columns paper style).

Venue:
------
The city of Timisoara, Romania, hosts several prestigious academic
institutions (the West University, the Politehnica University, the
University of Medicine, and others). The city and the surrounding region
have an unique history in Romania, being over the centuries an object of
dispute for several states (Roman, Hungarian, Ottoman, Austrian), which
left their still visible marks, and, above all, a very multicultural
society which constitutes a beautiful example of harmony in Romania and in
the Balkans (30 Km from Serbia).
Timisoara is connected by direct flights with Bucharest, Munich, Rome,
London, Madrid and other cities in Europe.
