The internet has become an important and indispensable information infrastructure with an increasing number of resources that are autonomous, diverse, growing and ever-changing, providing various services for end-uses and applications. It is therefore necessary to build large-scale parallel and distributed systems over Internet to manage and utilize these resources with expected performance and utilizations. In past years, there have been great efforts to manage Internet resources in academia and industry, e.g., grid computing, service-oriented computing, peer-to-peer computing, autonomic computing and cloud computing, etc.

iVCE (Internet-based Virtual Computing Environment) aims to provide technologies and platforms for managing Internet resources and for delivering harmonious, trustworthy, and transparent integrated services to end-users and applications. It adopts approaches of on-demand aggregation and autonomic collaboration to tackle the problems of managing Internet resources in terms of various technologies, e.g., virtualization, cloud computing, service computing, data centers, and other multi-scale resources computing technologies.

The aim of the iVCE series of workshops is to provide a forum for academics as well as practitioners to share their contributions and experiences, to leverage each other's perspectives, and to discuss emerging "hot" trends in this challenging area. The six preceding workshops were held in 2009 (Shenzhen, China), 2010 (Shanghai, China), 2011 (Hong Kong, China), 2012 (Shenzhen, China), 2013 (San Francisco, USA), and 2014 (Oxford, UK) respectively, and received overwhelming responses from academia as well as industry.

Each conference produced a proceedings published by the IEEE Computer Society Press.
