Submissions due: July 31, 2014
Notification: September 8, 2014

The Birds-of-a-Feather (BOF) program invites you to submit a proposal if you are interested in holding a session that emphasizes audience interaction and open discussion on non-commercial HPC topics of mutual and current interest within the HPC community. A strong emphasis should be placed on audience-driven discussion and participation. BOF sessions are an excellent opportunity to connect and interact with other attendees with whom you share a mutual interest. SC14 will feature BOF sessions about many HPC-related topics such as accelerators, programming models, big data, and education.

Emerging Technologies
Submissions due: July 31, 2014
Notification: August 31, 2013

In the Emerging Technologies feature of the Technical Program, SC14 will examine those technologies that may significantly change the world of HPC in the next five to fifteen years. Consisting of panel sessions and competitively selected exhibits, Emerging Technologies will showcase technologies that are innovative, but not currently available from industry as products. Technologies like reconfigurable computing, new SoC designs, alternative programming languages, and novel cooling techniques may offer near-term benefits, while new device technologies, like carbon nanotubes, non-volatile memory, quantum computing, and chip-level optical interconnects offer potentially paradigm-changing benefits over the long term.

We invite submissions from industry, academia, and government researchers for this Emerging Technologies Exhibit Showcase. Submissions will be evaluated on several criteria including potential impact on performance, productivity, power, reliability, and cost of HPC systems, and novelty. Submissions with exceptional merit may be offered the opportunity to present them at an Emerging Technology panel session.

Panels
Submissions due: April 25, 2014

Panels bring a rare opportunity for mutual engagement of community leaders and broad mainstream contributors in a face-to-face exchange through audience participation and questioning. Surprises are the norm at panels, which makes for exciting and lively hour-and-a-half sessions. Panels can explore topics in-depth by capturing the opinions of a wide-range of people active in the relevant fields. Panels represent state of the art opinions, and can be augmented with social media technologies including Twitter, LinkedIn, and video feeds-even real, time audience polling. Please plan on actively participating in one or more of the panel offerings at SC14. We look forward to your help, through your participation, in making panels at SC14 a major success and lots of fun.

Posters (ACM Student Research Competition, Regular and Education Posters)
Submissions due: July 31, 2014
Notification: September 8, 2014

SC14 solicits poster submissions that display cutting-edge research and work-in-progress in high performance computing, storage, networking, algorithms, and applications. Following the success of last year’s education track, SC14 also solicits education posters of interest to undergraduate HPC educators, with an emphasis on curriculum development and best teaching practices.

Posters provide an excellent opportunity for short presentations and informal discussions with conference attendees, giving presenters a chance to showcase their latest results and innovations. The selected posters will be prominently displayed during the entire conference. They will be digitally archived and made publicly available after the conference. A Best Poster Award will be presented, based on the quality of the work and the quality of the poster presentation.

SC14 will also host the ACM Student Research Competition (SRC). This competition will feature posters from undergraduate and graduate students showcasing original research. Only one student, who must be an active ACM member, must author each poster. The student’s advisor may be a co-author. The ACM SRC pre-selection will happen during the poster reception on Tuesday, and selected poster presenters will be given the opportunity to present their work in short talks on Wednesday. The ACM SRC committee will select a set of winners based on their poster content and presentation style.

Scientific Visualization and Data Analytics Showcase
Submissions due: July 31, 2014
Notification: September 15th

The newly designed Visualization and Data Analytics Showcase Program at SC14 will provide a forum for the year's most instrumental movies in HPC. Six finalists will compete for the Best Visualization Award. They will present their movies in a 15-minute presentation during a dedicated session at SC14. They will be judged by an ad-hoc committee for their video’s enabled science, techniques used, and innovative ideas. The winners will present their video during the Opening Session and at the Award Ceremony. The accepted submissions will appear as short papers on the SC14 webpage and archive.

We invite submissions including a movie (up to 250MB in size) and a short paper (up to 4 pages including references). The short paper should describe the scientific story conveyed by the movie, how the visualization helps scientific discovery, and the "state-of-the-practice" information behind making the movie.
