Well, the "good" news is that I can replicate the vanishing bridge  
problem here i.e. its not a problem just with your local set up.

The not so good news is that it will take some time to track down  
because the Ubuntu AG packaging is more or less identical to the  
Debian packaging, yet the Debian version works fine.
