____________________ATTENDEES, STATUS, QUESTIONS
>>GENERAL NOTES
Almost everyone used 2.0 to test today which is great. However, we are
repeating the same players. We need a pitch to get brand new 2.0 users out
there.
When hitting the heart of the meeting, I realized that the chat room
limitations of having no directional function (to direct your line of chat
to someone) could really be a pain in a fast-paced, formal
meeting. Obviously the work around is to simply type the person's name or
company first. Also, I think it is important to realize a big issue
cropping up - 1.0, 2.0 and IGChat (insors chat) chat applications are
completely incompatible. Folks from 2.0 to 1.0 cannot talk unless both
parties open a tkmoo and already have a mud name.... folks from IGChat can
only talk to other insors users unless they launch separately tkmoo and
have mud characters. It is starting to be a problem with communication in
the balance of meetings with multiple AG platforms... since backchannels
are key.
After playing with Shared Presentation app, it was realized that many
things make it break. However, it seems a few rollout of this app is
planned for the near future. Playing with this app continued from all the
different sites in the meeting. Using a cryptic command window for the
interface is definitely not assumed by new users. The command window
interface rarely even has a flashing cursor to let you know this is how you
manipulate slide changes. It is also common practice to simply hit page up
and down in reg ppt. This actually reloads the ppt over and over with
Shared Presentation.
Another point, if anyone that is joined in a Shared Presentation session
happens to type quit in this command window... ppts across the board close
down as well. Several folks tried loading new presentations and
joining/rejoining. It seems everyone that loads the Shared Presentation
software has to replace their mailcap file with a working one (found in the
ANL venue under data). Also it needs to be placed in c:\Documents and
Settings\Application Data\Access Grid\. This has been a source of problems
for new users, as they get a "No Client Found... " error typically.
Two frustrating slide show view issues remain. In the Shared Presentation
app you simply "join" the ppt that is currently loaded. If you join after
any "n" next or "p" previous commands are typed by any of the users in the
meeting, you are basically "out of sync". The mastering site or anyone in
the meeting needs to type goto (page#) to resync everyone to the right,
current page. Also, when saving your presentation if you do not setup the
slide view as "browse by individual" before you load it into this
application, it is projected over an entire projection screen and all your
video streams disappear (much like a typical slide show). This cannot be
changed on the fly without fixing and reloading and rejoining the presentation.
I worked with Jennifer last week and she has typed up instructions for the
Shared Browser and Presentation including the work arounds that exist
currently.
The changes from AG 2.0 to 2.1 were discussed. They should include
integrated bridging and certificate management, shared ppt rollout
supported, etc.
Bob Olson has been working on server stability and things have been stable
for over a week.
>>ANL (Tom Uram, Eric Olson, Mary Fritsch)
All systems working well here in Library node. Server stable throughout
the meeting. Questions from each site requested, then some Shared
Presentation testing followed.
>>ANL West (Jeff Schibonski)
Up and running 2.0..
>>ARSC/UAF (Paul Mercer)
Up and running 2.0..
Needed some info on getting Shared Presentation working on his machine.
NCSA (Shawn Davis, Mike Miller)
Up and running 2.0..
Shawn emailed some code for venue client, enabling it to be launched to a
web browser. Tom and Shawn discussed and looked through code a bit during
the meeting as Shawn's last day on this project and at NCSA was yesterday.
BU (Jennifer Teig von Hoffman)
Up and running 2.0..
LBNL (Lloyd Belknap, Mike Elmore)
Up and running 2.0..
NCAR (Darin Oman)
Up and running 2.0..
