That sounds fine to me. At some point, we should deal with the chaos of
having DM options use a global SF when available. Aesthetically, I'd rather
that "use SF for communication" be decoupled from "here is an SF", possibly
to the extent that the SF be in DM_XX instead of _p_DM, but not strongly
enough to change it now.
