I am not sure which Hypre thing you are talking about. Is it the SStruct
stuff?

Yes, the excellent EXASTEEL project (
http://www.numerik.uni-koeln.de/14079.html) uses Hypre as the coarse grid
solver
for a large scale multiscale, multigrid iteration. Its very impressive and
runs some of the largest problems I have seen for
very complex materials.
