> We hope you are well. Google has officially announced <https://urldefense.us/v3/__https://d4jbd104.na1.hubspotlinks.com/Ctc/OT*113/d4JBd104/VW4P4b3rp_9JW5kf6Mm2_-kZtW5GRJ1L5JCvm4N2bpc0v3m2nnW6N1vHY6lZ3pQW1k91rS3gjKs-W4rRNDB15xQ3pW52v5R323dN3rW8Gltw_2hQwBmW1S52HP1lR3DMW1YGtYQ6tPV-WW1QNz167P0Xp_W11ZgxW1zkpdQW4FMQrW2-wJLLW1P1PLm42-ZSGW6Vc-4l9l7WC-W8KLBtt2qVb4NW1XP9zt6-5LGcW4nSsPW3sT3F3W9cJ7my3k8cQkW3wC8pD17yCD6W5f5yZp5BF_DCVbG56d6zHJVVW3TSxhj3DfC3HN6NlxplH0vdkW801NwX3l7P7zW1Dn_L632wRD9dwq9d-04__;Kw!!G_uCfscf7eWS!Yza4IqE9Qj-aW7WaT3BdqQA_DBYVFFh1er2Q2eo7owE_ZDR9eoxmcBOOqSyAea191K0T9bg3M9qTB_QKwN223g$ > the 22nd iteration of Google Summer of Code (GSoC), and we are pleased to share that NumFOCUS will be applying again as a mentoring organization for GSoC 2026.
>
> Key updates:
> Organization applications: January 19 – February 3, 2026
> Project focus: GSoC continues to welcome a wide range of open source projects. For 2026, there is increased emphasis on AI/ML and Security, alongside areas such as science, data, cloud, development tools, medicine, and media.
> Encouragement for individual applications: Google’s selection process is not well suited to umbrella organizations. We strongly encourage projects that can apply independently to do so. We are happy to provide guidance to first-time applicant projects. Please reach out early if interested.
> Project sizes: Contributors may propose projects in three sizes - small (90 hours), medium (175 hours), or large (350 hours). However, because our available slots and administrative capacity are limited, we strongly encourage projects to prioritize medium and large proposals and to submit few, if any, ideas at the small level. If this guidance creates challenges for your project or potential contributors, please contact us so we can discuss options.
> We are also delighted to share that Henry Kironde and Rohit Goswami will return as GSoC Administrators for 2026.
>
> This year we want to go bigger and better!.
