Just as soon as ParMetis makes their code work with 64-bit indices?

FWIW, Scotch officially supports 64-bit and seems to be much more active.
 If you (Sean) have some time, I think that updating the Scotch interface
would be a better use of time than trying to hack ParMetis to handle 64-bit.
