configure.py script

I configured PETSc 2.3.3-p3 on Red Hat Linux.
I did not see any new makefiles generated. I came to know about this after
checking the time and date of the makefiles present in the all the
subfolders.

Do temporary makefiles get generated? I took the log of configure script
also. It is doing some testing.
Can you tell me what testing is it?

Waiting for your reply,
Sumit

We do generate makefiles, just not all of them. Automake is an unreadable,
inpenetrable mess that should never be used by anyone. Thus, we don't use
it.

  Thanks,

     Matt
