error when using pnetcdf

hello, i am having trouble getting pnetcdf to work. it compiles and links,
but when i run it i get the following error:

File locking failed in ADIOI_Set_lock. If the file system is NFS, you need
to use NFS version 3 and mount the directory with the 'noac' option (no
attribute caching).
[0] MPI Abort by user Aborting program !
[0] Aborting program!
p0_23262:  p4_error: : 1

When I use netcdf instead, the error goes away. any idea how to fix this?
Platform = Xeon CPU, Red hat 9, pnetcdf 0.9.3, mpiCC 3.2.2
