fortran parallel-netcdf

I was trying to run the fortran test in .../test/nf_test. After finding 
several problem that convince me it has not run in quite a while, I think 
it better to swith over and see if I can make progress running John's code, 
since he is the one who really needs help here.

I'll put together a summary of what I found/corrected on nf_test soon.

PS - Rob R., Do you still have accounts here on frost? If not would it be 
useful to  try to get it re-activated?
