No I don't believe I do. Will the standard uninstall from the control panel suffice?

Looks like there is some problem with your MPICH2 installation. Can you try uninstalling and reinstalling MPICH2? Do you have any other MPI libraries installed on your system?

I am not sure I understand what you are asking- to run the cpi example, I did not think it was necessary to use hostname on a local system.
Can you tell me exactly what you want me to type in the command prompt?
I typed in "mpiexec -n 2 hostname"
And received the same Launch Failed errors.
Thanks,

Hi,
Shouldn't you be using "mpiexec -n 2 hostname" instead of "mpiexec -n 2 asusnetbook"?

Jayesh,
Thanks for the response. Your questions-
AsusNetBook is the hostname.
Smpd running on AsusNetbook
It also seems that the error messages beyond launch failed: fail I showed in the previous email is not consistently reproducible, so I am not sure how relevant it is. I reformatted the message a few replies below to make it a bit more clear.
Thanks,
Celestino Abrego

Hi,
I could not follow some outputs of the commands (What does "mpiexec -n 2 asusnetbook" do?).
Is SMPD running on your machine (smpd -status)? Can you run "mpiexec -n 2 hostname"?
Regards,
Jayesh

Jayesh anything I should try? I haven't received any response on the forum from this question below. Just basic installation problem-I have installed before and got further than this on a different system.
Not sure what else to do here.

(See below) First two fails are with firewall on allowing MPI process manager and process launcher. Last pair of failures are with firewall off completely. Initially, my account did not have a password and I could not validate but I figured out that I needed a password.
C:\Program Files\MPICH2\bin>mpiexec -validate SUCCESS
C:\Program Files\MPICH2\bin>mpiexec.exe -n 2 cpi

Hi,
Ignore the error message from the mpiexec wrapper (It is a known bug).
Can you run jobs with mpiexec (mpiexec -n 2 hostname; mpiexec -n 2 C:\Progra~1\MPICH2\examples\cpi.exe)? Did you register a valid Windows username/password with mpiexec (mpiexec -register)? Please provide us with the complete error message.
Regards,
Jayesh

I am in the process of troubleshooting a problem that I was having with MCNPX program. My idea was that there was a firewall on my primary system preventing MPI to run properly. I am not working on a netbook now with XP home SP3 and I cannot get cpi example to run properly.
I am the only user on this computer, therefore I am the administrator.
I get this message for each process I am trying to run.
“Launch filed: FAIL”
Through some digging I found someone with a similar problems and the board asked for log files. I have attached those, but I am not really sure what to look for. MPICH2 Configuration wrapper indicates an error- “MPICH2 not installed or unable to query host”.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling MPICH2 with no changes.
Any ideas?
