I opened up a command prompt, and pasted in the command you suggested, and
that example program appears to work great. However, the wmpiconfig tool
still behaves oddly. When I open wmpiconfig, select my computer, and click
'Get Settings,' sometimes nothing happens, and sometimes I get that "error
=
inpsamo-psrmmw1: MPICH2 not installed or unable to query the host." On the
left side, the name of my computer is in regular
black-text-on-white-background, or black-text-on-grey-background. If all
was well, I had expected it to be highlighted in green. Just for fun, I
tried to change one of the settings (log -> "yes"). This fails with a
timeout error. (note that I did all this while logged on as administrator)

Does any of that help?

Hi,
Can you run an MPI program from command prompt (Try running the example
program cpi.exe provided with MPICH2. "mpiexec -n 2
C:\Progra~1\MPICH2\examples\cpi.exe")?

Regards,
Jayesh

Subject: [mpich-discuss] trouble installing MPICH2 on Windows7-64

Hello folks, I'm having difficulties, and would greatly appreciate your
advice. I have a medium-level machine with a Core 2 Duo processor running
Windows 7 64. I'd like to get mpich2 running, and be able to use the
appropriate R modules to take advantage of the fact that I have a 2-core
CPU. Unfortunately, MPICH2 isn't working for me.

The story: Today, I downloaded the 64-bit Windows installer for the most
recent stable release of MPICH2. I then carried out a vanilla install
process: log onto my computer as administrator, double-click the .msi, made
sure to choose to install for everyone, and add the location of the MPICH2
binaries to PATH. I started the wmpiconfig GUI, registered the
administrator account info, and when the config utility opened, I clicked
'get settings'. After a few seconds, the GUI complained "error =
inpsamo-psrmmw1: MPICH2 not installed or unable to query the host.'

I'm certain that MPICH2 is installed and running. The services tab on the
Task Manager clearly says so. I uninstalled MPICH2, and reinstalled from a
command prompt window (rather than double-clicking). Same problem. I tried
removing and reregistering the administrator account, and then also tried
my personal account. Same problem. I disabled my security software
(Symantec), carried out some further removing/registering/clickingaround.
Same problem.

I'm stumped. Any ideas?
