[mpich-discuss] MPICH_PORT_RANGE

hey guys,

i have something i wish u help me on.

when i try to set a port range number to my mpd by setting the environment variable in the .bash file
using MPICH_PORT_RANGE= 8000:9000

when i type the command
>>mpd -e 
i get an output like this
>>mpd_port=8000
which is correct.

then the mpd should choose a port number within this range.
but things go around like this:

>>mpd &
>>[1] 6045
which is obviously wrong.

what is annoying me is that this method works with other people.
i want to know why its not working with me.
if any one knows what i have done wrong plz reply.
