Please use a newer version of MPICH2.  MPICH2 1.1 is relatively old.  The latest stable release is 1.2.1p1 and the current preview release is 1.3a2.

Your python version seems reasonable and ought to be compatible, but I haven't seen this error before in MPD.  It may have been fixed in one of the newer releases.
