I think this discussion is better served on the PVFS2 developers list.
Since you are a beginner, have you managed to set up PVFS2 and MPICH2
(with PVFS2 support) ?  Once you have those pieces of infrastructure
in place, it will be easier to experiment with the hints and events
interface.
