Hi,
You must have missed the error messages during the install. Please follow the steps below to install MPICH2 on your system,

# Uninstall MPICH2 installed in your system.
# Download the appropriate (32-bit/64-bit) MPICH2 installer from http://www.mcs.anl.gov/research/projects/mpich2/downloads/index.php?s=downloads .
# Open an administrator command prompt (Right-click on command prompt icon and select "Run as administrator")
# From the command prompt install MPICH2 using the msiexec utility (Type "msiexec /i MPICH2-INSTALLER.msi" - where MPICH2-INSTALLER.msi is the MPICH2 installer file.)
# The command above should bring up the installer interface to install MPICH2.

(PS: You need admin privileges to install MPICH2.)
Regards,
Jayesh

You are correct, the message is "no smpd running". I followed all the install prompts and received no error prompts. What did I do wrong?

Thanks

Hi,
>From the error messages it looks like the MPICH2 process manager was not installed correctly on the system. Please let us know the status of the MPICH2 process manager by typing "smpd -status" at the command prompt.

The Feb 22 2010 version, not sure about #, no errors during installation

# Where you able to run any MPI programs on the machine (Is this the first time ?)?
This is the first time

# What is the value of %MPIRUN% (Does it point to mpiexec from MPICH2)?
yes

# Can you run simple non-MPI programs like hostname (mpiexec -n 2 hostname)?
no

# Can you run simple MPI programs on the machine (mpiexec -n 2 c:\progra~1\mpich2\examples\cpi.exe)?
no, same error

# If you have any firewalls running on the machine, try turning the firewall off and re-running your code.
Turned off al firewalls, still same error
