[mpich-discuss] Running mpiexec on WIndows Computers

Hi,
 Please follow the instructions below and provide us with the debug
output.
 
1) Turn off any smpd running on machine1 or machine2 using the "smpd
-stop" command.
2) Run smpd in debug mode on machine1 and machine2 using the "smpd -d"
command and redirect the output to a log file (smpd -d >
smpd_machine1.log)
3) Run mpiexec in debug/verbose mode using the "-verbose" option of
mpiexec and redirect the output to a log file (mpiexec -verbose -n 2
-machinefile mf.txt c:\progra~1\mpich2\examples\cpi.exe > mpiexec.log)

One of my machines was with sp2 so I upgraded it to sp3, but still problem
says the same: it wont work for more jobs on both machines.. 
firewalls are turned off.

as I said, with smpd -d I can see that there is communication till the
moment I submit number of integration intervals - some smpd activity is
appearing on machine1 but on machine2 nothing..

canceling the job goes just fine.. - communication is ok in that case..

any Idea what else could be wrong?

 Nothing special. MPICH2 is installed on both winxp machines, firewalls
turned off. I have already registered the username/password on the
machines. Then I just run cpi.exe.
 I have SP3 installed on both the machines (That is unlikely to be the
cause of your problem). If the Security Center shows that the firewall is
on, you might have a third-party firewall installed on your machine which
is turned on.

Hi, 

I have an administrator account on both machines, so I can do it, but, on
machine2 it is service pack 3 installed.. 

maybe that's reason that I can't turn off firewall..

so it shows in main Security Center window that firewall is on, and when I
try to turn it off it shows that firewall is actually turned off..

but, I'm not sure that firewall is a problem, because cpi.exe works when
only one job is submited on any of machines...

can you tell me your configuration of win machines that works?

 Can you check with a system administrator regarding this (firewall
showing "on" when it is turned off) ? Did you try rebooting the machine
after turning the firewall off ?
