It is probably a problem with time stamps being out of sync on the machine.
Try starting with a fresh untar of the tarball. Do it on a local disk
instead of an NFS file system.

Subject: [mpich-discuss] mpich2 1.0.8: problems compiling (simplemake)
Hi,
I'm having problems in compiling mpich2 1.0.8 with a pgi 8.0.1 fortran
compiler on an ubuntu 7.10 linux box (32 bit).
The same problems is reported also with a gnu compiler, whereas the code
compile correctly with Intel 10.1.
The error is:
make[2]: Entering directory
`/home/bellanca/software/mpich2/1.0.8/mpich2-1.0.8_pgi/src/mpid'
( cd . && /maint/simplemake \
-rootdir=../../ \
-configdir=. \
-common=/maint/makedefs \
-docnamedefs=/maint/docnotes \
"-autoconf=-I ROOTDIR/confdb" \
-libdir='${MPILIBNAME}=ROOTDIR/lib' \
-smroot=/maint \
-distcleanfiles="Makefile" \
-smvar_doc_attop=0 \
Makefile.sm )
/bin/bash: line 1: /maint/simplemake: No such file or directory
make[2]: *** [Makefile.in] Error 127
This is what I have configured before compiling mpich2:
./configure --prefix=/opt/mpich2/1.0.8/pgi --enable-cxx --enable-f90
--enable-fast --enable-traceback --with-mpe --enable-f90modules
--enable-cache --enable-romio --with-file-system=nfs+ufs+pvfs2
--with-device=ch3:nemesis --with-pvfs2=/usr/local
--with-java=/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun
Any idea?
Regards.
Gaetano
