Is this reply specific to PIC codes, or to the other example too? It seems shortsighted to me for us to handle one of
the partitions in that other case but not the other partition.
Note that in many other cases, in the context of physics codes, applications talk about structuring their communication
around a communicator, rather than MPI_COMM_WORLD. I think this is analogous to what we're discussing here.
