One other change I think would be very useful would be to use a make 
variable IMESH_DIR instead of conditional blocks which depend on 
implementation.  That makes the makefile completely generic; the 
IMESH_DIR can be specified on the make line, e.g.

make IMESH_DIR=/usr/local/itaps/FMDB

or can be set as an env variable.
