Supercomputing Spotlights is a webinar series featuring short
presentations that highlight the impact and successes of
high-performance computing (HPC) throughout our world. Presentations,
emphasizing achievements and opportunities in HPC, are intended for the
broad international community, especially students and newcomers to the
field. Supercomputing Spotlights is an outreach initiative of
SIAG/Supercomputing (https://urldefense.us/v3/__https://siag-sc.org__;!!G_uCfscf7eWS!e7KoM5biy6QcZ9wOAX1KB5GhiW6NXTxk_NbJAg3SZEDJIWu7jd1UaJ4xL7EZ1DIEWWYkobqTXxgZy4Vwt2l6skjEzX2soMo$ ) … Join us!

Abstract: With JUPITER, the first European exascale supercomputer will
enter production soon. The system, achieving exascale through about 24
000 Grace-Hopper CPU/GPU superchips, is the result of a long process, in
which scientific applications took a prominent role during the design.
The talk will present the JUPITER system design, the current status, and
how a set of applications within the JUPITER Benchmark Suite were used
to procure the machine. In addition, first experiences from JUREAP, the
JUPITER Research and Early Access Program, will be presented.

Bio: Andreas Herten is a researcher at Jülich Supercomputing Centre and
the joint-head of the Novel System Architecture Design division, in
which he investigates next-generation supercomputer architecture. He and
his team especially focus on accelerators (through the Accelerating
Devices Lab), like GPUs. Central to his work is the close incorporation
of application feedback to assess the hardware-software interaction
systematically. Andreas is involved in a variety of European and
national research and innovation projects. He plays a leading role in
design and deployment of the JUPITER supercomputer, the first exascale
system in Europe and hosted in Jülich.
