** Background
The rapid proliferation of edge computing has transformed traditional
cloud-based architectures, enabling low-latency, high-reliability,
and resource-efficient applications. Recent concepts, such as
serverless on edge, revolutionise the design of distributed application
development within a convergent edge-cloud continuum. As the process
of convergent edge and cloud infrastructures continues, there is
an increase in the need for novel networking paradigms to support
seamless connectivity, efficient resource management, advanced
infrastructure automation, and enhanced security.
This Special Issue of IEEE Networking Letters aims to bring together
cutting-edge research on the networking aspects of edge-cloud
computing infrastructures, covering innovative architectures,
protocols, and applications.
** Call for papers
We invite original contributions that address key challenges in
edge-cloud networking, including scalable and resilient architectures,
intelligent resource orchestration, performance optimization, and
security mechanisms. Papers focusing on emerging technologies such
as 5G/6G, AI-driven networking, quantum communications, and network
virtualization are especially encouraged. The Special Issue will
also welcome real-world implementations, testbeds, and case studies
demonstrating the impact of edge-cloud networking in various domains
such as IoT, smart cities, AI-driven analytics, and real-time
applications.
We invite researchers and practitioners to submit high-quality contributions
that advance the state-of-the-art in edge-cloud networking.
