*Call for Papers:*
Health Information Technology (HIT) innovations offer significant potential
to transform the delivery of care, to improve the quality and efficiency of
the healthcare system, to enhance interactions between patients/caregivers
and providers, and to enable greater access to the latest advancements in
treatments, among other accomplishments and outcomes. Health and Medical
Informatics is an important HIT area that is at the intersection of
information science, computer science, social science, behavioral science
and health care. This field is mainly concerned with the resources,
devices, and methods required to optimize the acquisition, storage,
retrieval, processing and use of information in health and biomedicine.
Health and Medical Informatics is driven by computers, information and
communication systems. It is a multi-disciplinary field that covers a wide
spectrum of sub-fields. It combines the problem solving skills of computer
scientists with health care professionals and health care givers.
Databases, networking, graphical interfaces, IoT, data mining, machine
learning, intelligent decision support systems and data science are just a
few of the technologies and research areas currently contributing to health
and medical informatics. Mobility and ubiquity in healthcare systems,
standardization of technologies and procedures, certification, privacy and
security are some of the issues that medical informatics professionals and
the ICT industry and research community in general are addressing in order
to further promote ICT in healthcare. The purpose of the IEEE HMiMS
2019symposium is to bring together researchers and practitioners interested
in the application of information and communication technologies (ICT) to
healthcare and medicine in general and to the support of persons with
special needs in particular.
