## Big Data Research journal (Elsevier) ##
## Special Issue on Big Data in Industrial and Commercial Applications ##
https://www.journals.elsevier.com/big-data-research/call-for-papers/big-data-in-industrial-and-commercial-applications
# Introduction #
The amount of data collected and managed in most applications is increasing at a staggering pace, including almost all industrial areas, e.g., telecommunications, banking, gaming, defence, logistics and manufacturing. In May 2018 Forbes noted that 2.5 quintillion (1018) bytes of data are produced every day, and the data production rate is increasing all the time. There are two main challenges associated with these enormous amounts of data: we need to provide storage systems, database systems, execution platforms etc. to technically handle the data in a fast, cost-effective and secure way, and we need to develop AI and other applications that can find useful trends and patterns in the data, so that we can produce (business) value. The exploding amount of data in many applications, makes it crucial that the advancements in Big Data research find their way from the research labs to practical applications, and that these research results can be successfully integrated into industrial and commercial processes and systems. In order to accelerate the use of Big Data research in practice, we need to collect and analyse a number of examples from industrial and commercial applications. In this special issue we welcome papers that either look at storage systems and execution platforms for handling the data in a fast, cost-effective and secure way, or at applications that can find useful trends and patterns in the data in industrial and commercial settings. Studies that include both these aspects are of course also welcome.
# Topics for the special issue #

# Paper Submission Format and Guidelines #
All submitted papers must be clearly written in English and must contain only original work, which has not been published by, or is currently under review for, any other journal, conference, symposium, or workshop. Submissions are expected to not exceed 30 pages (including figures, tables, and references) in the journal's single-column format using 11 point font. Detailed submission guidelines are available under "Guide for Authors" at:
http://www.journals.elsevier.com/big-data-research/
All manuscripts and any supplementary material should be submitted through the Elsevier Editorial System (EES). The authors must select " SI: Big Data in Industry" as Article Type when they reach the Article Type step in the submission process. The EES website is located at: https://www.editorialmanager.com/BDR/default.aspx
All papers will be peer-reviewed by at least three independent reviewers. Requests for additional information should be addressed to the guest editors.
