Call for Applications to the HPDC 2019 PhD Forum
Application Deadline: May 24th AoE
Application Response: May 29th
Early Registration Ends: May 31st
Details:
The HPDC PhD Forum offers an opportunity for students to interact with both their peers and professionals in the field, learn about and practice presentation skills, and to learn about career options and their tradeoffs.
Qualified students are required to submit an abstract for a poster that will be used as part of the forum sessions as well as during the Wednesday night poster reception for all HPDC participants.
Educational sessions include:
1. workshop on presentation skills. This will be an interactive discussion about what makes a good presentation and help build confidence for students when giving presentations.
2. practice presentation session. Each student will present a teaser talk of 1-3 minutes for their poster to a small group of peers and a leader to get constructive feedback about both their poster construction and how well their talk encouraged a listener to interact about the poster.
3. poster reception. As part of the HPDC program, a poster reception will be held for all student posters and paper posters. A best student poster will be voted on by the attendees with an award given at the Thursday night banquet.
4. career insights. A group of professionals in academia, national laboratories, and industry will offer a brief introduction about their career and will then be open to any questions from the forum participants to help the participants better understand both what path may be right for them as well as how to best prepare for a particular path.
