The Ninth International Green and Sustainable Computing Conference (IGSCÕ18)
www.green-conf.org
October 21-24, 2018, Pittsburgh, PA, USA
Call for Ph.D. Forum Submissions
Graduate students working in the area of sustainable computing and/or
computational sustainability are invited to submit a summary of their Ph.D.
thesis work to the Ph.D. Forum at IGSC 2018, to be held October 21-24 in
Pittsburgh, USA.
Aim and Scope
In conjunction with the regular IGSC conference program, the aim of the
Ph.D. Forum is to provide a specialized forum for senior Ph.D. graduate
students to present their Ph.D. thesis work and preliminary results in a
poster presentation session. The Ph.D. Forum provides a unique opportunity
for students to present their Ph.D. work to the conference attendees, meet
with their peers and experts in the field, and most importantly, receive
feedback on their work. All the submitted Ph.D. Forum abstracts will be
reviewed and the accepted abstracts will be published in the IGSC 2018
proceedings and in IEEE Xplore. IGSC will provide several student travel
grants for attending the PhD Forum as outlined below.
Publication and Submission Instructions
Accepted abstracts in the Ph.D. Forum will be published (maximum 2 pages in
length for each paper) in the IGSC Ph.D. Forum Proceedings, which will be
published in IEEE Xplore as part of the IGSC proceedings.
Each submission must include:
- A two-page summary (extended abstract) of the Ph.D. work based on IEEE
conference template. Please check the Paper Submission instructions on the
IGSC webpage (https://www.igscc.org/paper-submission) for formatting
templates. The two-page paper should clearly list the main contributions of
the student Ph.D. thesis. Also, it should include a list of recent
publications, if any, in the reference section;
- The author list in this extended abstract should only include the student
name (first author) and the advisor. Also, please specify to which track
the submission belongs. Information on different tracks is available on the
IGSC webpage (https://www.igscc.org/call-for-papers);
- A recently published paper (conference publication or journal) by the
student in the field, if any; and
- A letter from the advisor, sanctioning the submission and acknowledging
willingness to support the Ph.D. studentsÕ travel (either fully or as
necessary beyond any possible IGSC student travel support) to the
conference to present their posters at the Forum.
All the aforementioned requirements should be merged into a single PDF file
and submitted at https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=igsc18 (Make sure
to select the PhD Forum Track)Ñor see instructions on IGSC website.
Conference Attendance and Poster Presentation
The PhD Forum participants are expected to register for the conference at
the student rate with the expectation of presenting their posters during
the Ph.D. Forum poster session at IGSC. Please note the following regarding
your poster presentations:
- You will have a display area sized at maximum 48 inches by 36 inches. You
are free to use this area in any way you like (e.g., one large poster,
multiple sheets, etc). If you choose to use multiple sheets instead of one
poster, you can produce a total of six (6) A4 pages or print a total of
twelve (12) PowerPoint presentation slides (2 slides per A4 page).
- We will provide thumbtacks (pushpins) to hang your poster on provided
boards. Please look for the board with your presentation number.
- IGSC will not supply output or production services.
PhD Forum Student Travel Support
With support from National Science Foundation (NSF), IGSC will provide 8-10
student travel grants (each at $1,000 or actual travel/registration costs,
whichever is less) for attending IGSC and the PhD Forum. All PhD Forum
submissions are automatically evaluated for student travel support with no
need for submission of additional materials in this regard.
