[Please accept our sincere apologies in case of cross posting]
This is the first CfP of the HELICON workshop. Please feel free to
circulate where appropriate.
**** About HELICON
GPU computation is becoming popular, primarily within the scientific
computation and machine learning communities. By exploiting the inherent
parallelism of numerous treads operating on an array of dedicated special
purpose processors, the computations of many deep learning problems can be
substantially accelerated, including training a convolutional neural
network and locating the optimal topology for a Kohonen map. HELICON 2018
aspires to illustrate the technological potential and the financial
benefits of adopting the GPU technology for deep learning purposes through
a series of high quality papers.
The name HELICON is a tribute to the Galactic Empire universe created by
Isaac Asimov.
**** Venue and Date
HELICON will be held in conjunction with SETN 2018 (setn2018.upatras.gr)
from 9th to the 15th of July 2018 in the Conference and Cultural Center of
the University of Patras. The exact date will be announced soon.
Patras is the third largest Greek city with a population of 250.000.
Besides the many interesting sightseeings in and around the city, there are
many important archaeological sites such as Ancient Olympia and the Oracle
of Delphi reachable in two hours by car, whereas Athens is only one hour
and a half away.
The Cultural and Conference Center of the University of Patras is among the
largest and most modern conference centers in Greece, renowned for its
acoustics. It is located at the heart of the campus, surrounded by lush
vegetation. It is served on a very regular basis by two bus lines and the
train bus line, which takes passengers to the local suburban train line.
Moreover, there are plenty of taxis available.
**** Submission Guidelines
The peer review will rely on content novelty, contribution potential, as
well as on topic elucidation and expressive power. Mathematically rigorous
papers or works supported by an original or outstanding implementation,
preferably posted on GitHub, are especially welcome, and so are maverick
papers with thought provoking ideas. Each submitted paper is expected to
abide by the ACM SIG Proceedings guidelines, available at:
http://www.acm.org/publications/article-templates/proceedings-template.html

**** Publication
All paper submissions will be only handled electronically via Easychair
separately but under supervision from the main event (SETN 2018). Please
note that submitted papers should not have been submitted, accepted, or
published to another conference or journal.
HELICON papers can either be short (2-4 pages) or full (6-10 pages). Both
paper types will be included in the SETN proceedings and, consequently,
will be published in the ACM Digital Portal.
Finally, if a paper is accepted, then it has to be registered for before
the deadline set by SETN. The fees are set by the main conference, so
please make sure to consult the SETN Web page. Also, at least one author
must present the paper to HELICON.
