First Workshop on the High Performance Scripting Languages
In conjunction with PPoPP 2015
February 7 - 11, 2015
San Francisco, California
Scripting languages have become a major tool. During their initial design, performance was not a major concern, but their heavy use in web-based applications and their increasing popularity for a wide range of applications including scientific computing has made performance a significant issue. This workshop is devoted to the discussion of techniques for improving the performance of programs written in scripting languages and language design strategies that lead to higher performance without harming the advantages for programmability of scripting languages.
The workshop will feature both invited talks and submitted talks. Those interested in giving a talk at the workshop should submit an extended abstract of two pages or less. Possible topics include, but are not limited to:
* Byte code to Byte code optimizations
* Dynamic optimizations
* Optimizations enabled by the managed environment or runtime and the effects of the environment on program performance
* Language design issues and their effects of optimization
* Parallel execution of programs written in scripting languages
* Parallel execution environments for programs written in scripting languages
Extended abstracts should be submitted via e-mail by December 12, 2014 to padua at illinois.edu<mailto:padua at illinois.edu>. Notifications of acceptance will be sent by December 20, 2014.
The workshop will take place on Saturday, February 7th, 2015. See http://polaris.cs.uiuc.edu/hpsl/
