The second international special session on
Cloud computing on Infrastructure as a Service and its Applications
of the 22nd Euromicro International Conference on Parallel, distributed and
network-based Processing
to be held between February 12-14 2014 in Turin, Italy

Call for papers

1. Special session theme:
Cloud Computing covers a broad range of distributed computing principles
infrastructure (e.g distributed storage, reconfigurable networks) to new
platforms (e.g MS Azure, Google Appe Engine), and internet based
Particularly, Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) Cloud systems - such as
Amazon EC2,
Rackspace or Google Compute Engine - allow the dynamic creation,
destruction and
management of virtual machines (VMs) on virtualized clusters. IaaS
Clouds provide a
high-level of abstraction to the end user, one that allows the creation
of on-demand
services through a pay as you go infrastructure combined with
elasticity. This special
session on Cloud Computing is intended to be a forum for the exchange of
ideas and
experiences on the use of Cloud Computing technologies and applications
with compute
and data intensive workloads. The special session also aims at
presenting the
challenges and opportunities offered by the development of academic
Cloud Computing
solutions - such as OpenNebula, OpenStack or Eucalyptus - themselves, as
well as case
studies in applications of Cloud Computing. The general venue will be a
good occasion
to share, learn, and discuss the latest results in this field of
research. The special
session program will include presentations of peer-reviewed papers.

2. Scope -- examples of topics of interest:
- Virtualization technologies in scope of IaaS solutions
- Incorporating beyond-CPU virtualization (e.g. I/O, GPU) aspects to cloud
- Virt. Machine scheduling & management algorithms
- Operational challenges in private, hybrid and public IaaS systems
- Cost and pricing models in virtualized infrastructures
- Enterprise level infrastructure clouds
- Solutions that meet demands of HPC clouds
- Federative aspects of hybrid ( private-public) clouds
- Novel IaaS architectures, platforms and applications
- Virtual Appliance storage management (e.g. caching, repositories,
- Virtual Machine migration techniques
- Big Data and Infrastructure clouds
- Security & Privacy for data management in Clouds
- Cloud Computing for scientific applications
- Performance evaluation, modelling and prediction
- Programming models and tools
- Clouds for compute/data intensive applications
- Workflows on the Cloud

for multi-Clouds
- Cloud storage and I/O

3. Submission guidelines:
Authors are required to submit original, unpublished research or
overviews closely
related to the above mentioned topics related to Infrastructure as a
Service systems.
Prospective authors should submit a full paper not exceeding 8 pages
(including a
150-200 word abstract) in the IEEE Conference proceedings format
(IEEEtran, double-
column, 10pt). To facilitate an anonymous reviewing process the
conference applies a
double-bind review procedure. Thus the first page of the submission
should contain only
the title and abstract (no author information should be present); in the
list, references to the authors' own work should appear as "omitted for
blind review"
entries. Papers must adhere to the formatting rules of the conference
and will undergo
the same review process as other papers submitted to the conference.

Papers submitted for the special session must be submitted through the
submission system with an indication of the name of the special session:

Submit here: https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=pdp2014

Proceedings will be published by Conference Publishing Services (CPS) in
the same
volume of the main track. Authors of accepted papers are expected to
register and
present their papers at the Conference. Conference proceedings will be
indexed, among
others, by IEEE explore, DBLP, Scopus ScienceDirect, and ISI Web of

4. Important dates:
Deadline for paper submission: July 31, 2013
Author notification: October 7, 2013
Camera ready paper due: October 31, 2013
Conference: February 12-14, 2014

5. Special session chairs:
Chair: Gabor Kecskemeti
Co-chairs: Thierry Delaitre, Attila Kertesz

6. Program committee:
Eugen Feller, Francesc Guim, Eduardo Huedo, Attila Marosi, Ariel Oleksiak,
