Just a heads up, but by specifying the '--with-log-path-by-env' 
configure option, Darshan won't attempt to write to a directory of the 
structure year/month/day. It will write the log file directly to the 
directory given in DARSHAN_LOGPATH in this case. So, that at least 
doesn't appear to be the problem.
