To exclude the MacPorts-installed Python from the mix, I then used the Guest Account in Mac OS X 10.6.x

Again, vic appears in Dock only momentarily.

~/.AccessGrid3
after initial use of Access Grid 3.2. Log file there might contain something relevant.
