You should conform to the versions specified.  We're relying pretty 
tightly on specific versions of each of our dependencies, and have done 
all of our testing with these versions.

I don't know about debian packaging; if some of the base packages are 
typically already installed, you could safely exclude them, but ideally 
the packages would 'require' them as a safeguard for atypical installs.

The ag-packaging directory _is_ the packaging directory, renamed when 
you checkout the ag-dist-linux module from cvs.

No problem at all.  I'd like to get Joseph's work into the packaging 
tree in our cvs, and would be happy to work with you to make this happen 
while you're getting the debian package to build.
