   We bought Sony VPL-PX20 (1400 lumen - the PX30 is 2000) projectors. 
They have a noise level of 34 db which apparently is pretty good (I
haven't see that info for other projectors).  When you turn them on you
hear the fans throttle down after a few seconds quite impressively.  Our
projectors are probably less than 8 feet off the floor and we don't seem
to have a problem.  We're using some rebranded Audio Technical boundary
conferencing mics (table top).
