Dear All:

would it be possible to get a precise "small" list of features of a
mandatory Linux machine that is part of an access grid node. E.g. which os
version, ....,

Or is there a great deal of flexibility on these machines?

Thanks

Gregor

Subject: AG Packaging Effort

Dear Folks,

I would like to publicly recognize some of the recent work that has come out
of the AG community. In the past few months, several folks have been
working on a packaging project called Access Grid-in-a-Box. The goal of
this project is to produce stable, well-documented release packages that can
be used for rapid deployment of the Access Grid. These releases are
critical to the future success of the AG. 30 people from 12 different
institutions are currently participating in the project. They are divided
into 5 working groups:

1) The Development Team
The Developers maintain the AG source-base, help write and review AGiB test
plans, review documentation, and perform release engineering.

2) The Documentation Team
The Documentation team produces end-user documentation and helps to support
the Access Grid Documentation Project. See http://www.accessgrid.org/agdp/
for more information on the AGDP.

3) The Testing Team
Testers develop test plans and perform black-box tests, identifying problems
with new releases. While not necessarily meeting the standards of
commercial shrink-wrapped software, releases are expected to work reliably
and as documented.

4) The Training Team
The Training Team is creating materials that can be used as standalone
sources for Access Grid training. An Elementary Training Package for the
Access Grid is currently under development.

5) The Contributors
Contributors provide software developed outside of the AG project that is
nevertheless useful in an AG context. A template for submitting
contributions can be found at
http://www-unix.mcs.anl.gov/~childers/contrib.doc.

Please feel free to visit the packaging website at
http://www-fp.mcs.anl.gov/fl/accessgrid/agpackaging.htm, where more detailed
information can be found about the teams and the many wonderful people
involved in this project. The end result of the current effort will be a
release of AG version 1.0 in June. Because of the hard work of the folks on
these teams, the transition to the AG will be much smoother for the 10s of
new nodes on our near horizon.

If you would like to join us on the packaging team, you are most welcome!
Our wishlist of participants includes:
people willing to submit their AG docs to the AGDP,
	testers,
	standup trainers,
	technical writers,
	AG technical consultants,
	application/infrastructure programmers,
	large event management coordinators,
	other technical support positions.
If you would like to participate on this project in any way, please email me
at childers at mcs.anl.gov.

Thanks,
Lisa
