Barbara and Marty (and AG-Tech list):

We'll have 12 undergraduates working here in Morgantown for 10 weeks but
we'd love to have interaction with researchers at all levels around the
grid.

20 Training Sessions
--------------------

These are intended to teach the on-site students and some of our local
folks as well how to use some of the VR technologies and tools we have in
the lab. (We have a large collection of 3-D modeling software, a Cyrax
laser scanner, a Minolta laser scanner (on order), 4 PHANToMs (one with
FreeForm), some music software, etc.) We would welcome others joining
these training sessions to learn and would be GRATEFUL if people outside
Morgantown would help with some of the teaching!

8 Research Seminars
-------------------

We plan to have 8 weekly research seminars. (We've borrowed the idea of
putting these on the Grid from Kentucky's weekly computer science seminar
series!) Again, we'd welcome presentations by others around the Access
Grid as part of our series. (And other nodes are welcome to attend and
ask questions and so forth.)

Two Day Symposium
-----------------

The two day symposium is intended in part to give our undergraduates an
opportunity to present their work from the summer project, but we've
allowed 2 full days (August 2 and 3), so there is plenty of time for other
presentations, and, again, we'd *welcome* participation from other sites
(as well as audience participation).

Informal Interaction
--------------------

Since we'll have the node set up full time with a room our students will
have 24 hour access to, we'd also welcome the kind of informal interaction
the node is intended for, especially from undergrads doing similar work.
We're certainly planning to give all 12 of the undergraduates in the REU
program instruction in how to operate the node, so they should be able to
"hang out" there when we aren't doing official things.

(Marty- let's talk some more about this!)

I've been busy writing our "project plan" the past few days and am now
working on the web pages. I'll send the URL for our REU project web site
to this list when the site is up.
