Subject: July 15, 1999 Tango'd Training Meeting

Hi,

In this email,
   * minutes from recent meeting
   * new mailing alias for training group
   * next meeting semi scheduled

The PACS training group met via Tango on July 15, 1999, from 2p to 4p.
The main objective of the meeting was to have installed and use Tango.
Boston U, NCSA, UKy, UNM, and OSC participated. We experimented with the
chat tool, shared browser, paintbrush, and Buena Vista (BV -
video/audio) tool. The concept of tool ownership and functions was
demonstrated through "master", "local open/close", and "remote
open/close" events. Most participants were using the Tango client for
Windows (a PC or laptop). A copy of the slides may be found at

   http://www.osc.edu/~leslie/pacs/training/990715/

With the exception of BV, all tools worked as anticipated. The BV tool
continues to be the most sensitive tool in the Tango Interactive suite.
Great care must be taken not only in the tool adjustments but on the
Windows system itself. The specific video cards are also a determining
factor in BV's effectiveness. Some participants were able to hear but
not broadcast. Audio was often "choppy".

A teleconference call was also used during the meeting. Thanks to NCSA
for setting up the call on short notice because the OSU lines were
undergoing maintenance.

In a classroom environment, where most of the audio is initiated by the
instructor, we can get by with using the chat tool for remote student
interactions and unidirectional audio with BV. This is not as easy in a
meeting setting.

Some ideas were discussed about potential use of Tango with training
activities but no decisions were formalized.

An email alias for the group, pacs-trn at osc.edu, is now available. The
current list is
