Have you thought about how we could handle system-level preferences, like the NTP-server preference requested in this bug report? http://bugzilla.mcs.anl.gov/AccessGrid/show_bug.cgi?id=1189 Maybe we need a system preferences panel that would be applicable in other UI components, too.
