The video tool is vic. Audio should be using rat or vat, I'm not sure
which one you guys are using (probably rat). There is a known problem
with rat "falling behind" on windows. A patch was submitted to the rat
folks and the cvs copy has it applied. It minimized the problem but
it's not entirely fixed yet.

Does that sound like what you're seeing?

Audio Sync -

I thought I would send this to you but will also send it to the
newsgroup. We are seeing audio drop out of synch when we use it locally
between six machines. These are on our versions of PIG but use VIC
v2.8nlsde-2.1.3-114. Do you think this has to do with the timing
server, the version of vic?

The deal is this:

TTL is the # of Router hops that the data is valid for. The routers
enforce (ie, decrement the number and when it gets to 0 drop the
packets). But the application sets the number in the first place. The
app is the only one who knows what the user wants, so that's where the
ttl has to get set. Everyone else just plays the ttl game.

Ivan,

My guys have been asking me to explain in detial the TTL settings for
both VIC and RAT. Why would the application require this, if the
network routers can handle it? How does this interact with the
application? Why would you need to increase the ttl? It seems that if
we leave it at default we have a hard time with remote sites in Belgium
for Audio and Video....

Hey Kevin,

You mentioned having a vic that could send from multiple devices. Can
you give me a pointer to this? It'd be interesting to roll that into OM
vic, since we're moving forward with that version. Then everyone could
have a big win of only having to run one vic per machine :-)
